Monte Carlo simulations of an amphiphilic polymer at a hydrophobic/hydrophilic interface

چکیده
Monte Carlo simulations have been carried out for an off-lattice model of an amphiphilic polymer at a hydrophobic/hydrophilic interface. The model system consists of a polynorbornene backbone with poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) grafts modelled atomistically at an idealized interface between hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions, which are represented by external potentials. Results are presented for the distribution of PEO chain ends, and the density of PEO segments perpendicular to the surface. The latter is used to provide predictions for neutron reflectivity profiles normal to the surface as a function of the lateral confinement of the PEO grafts. At low surface coverage the simulation results are found to be in good agreement with experimental neutron scattering results from similar polymers studied at the water/air interface.

Amphiphilic Block Copolymer Nano-micelles: Effect of Length Ratio of the Hydrophilic Block
Block copolymer nano-micelles are especially important in cancer treatment because of their fine dimensions. In this article, three systems of amphiphilic copolymers with similar lengths and different ratios of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic chains are studied using implicit-solvent coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations. The factor fphil is defined as the ratio of the number...
متن کاملCT-Based Brachytherapy Treatment Planning using Monte Carlo Simulation Aided by an Interface Software
Introduction: In brachytherapy, radioactive sources are placed close to the tumor, therefore, small changes in their positions can cause large changes in the dose distribution. This emphasizes the need for computerized treatment planning. The usual method for treatment planning of cervix brachytherapy uses conventional radiographs in the Manchester system. Nowadays, because of their advantages ...
متن کاملCollapse transitions of a periodic hydrophilic hydrophobic chain
Short title: Transitions of a periodic hydrophilic hydrophobic chain 1 We study a single self avoiding hydrophilic hydrophobic polymer chain, through Monte Carlo lattice simulations. The affinity of monomer i for water is characterized by a (scalar) charge λ i , and the monomer-water interaction is short-ranged. Assuming incompressibility yields an effective short ranged interaction between mon...
متن کاملEffect of packing parameter on phase diagram of amphiphiles: an off-lattice Gibbs ensemble approach.
We determine the phase diagram of several amphiphilic molecules as a function of the amphiphilic parameter alpha defined as the ratio of the volume of hydrophilic to hydrophobic segments using the Gibbs ensemble Monte Carlo method supplemented by configurational bias scheme. Specifically, we study amphiphilic molecules h(1)t(7), h(2)t(6), and h(3)t(5), for which alpha=0.14, 0.33, and 0.60 respe...
متن کاملPrediction of blood-brain partitioning using Monte Carlo simulations of molecules in water
The brain-blood partition coefficient (log BB) is a determining factor for the efficacy of central nervous system acting drugs. Since large-scale experimental determination of log BB is unfeasible, alternative evaluation methods based on theoretical models are desirable. Toward this direction, we propose a model that correlates log BB with physically significant descriptors for 76 structurally ...
